Love love love this in every way. Love this tangent, love the patterns and connection and love the epiphany of drawing in pen - after sketching in pencil. I had this very same epiphany myself 7 to 8 years ago. Also, the sea loves colours, that’s why there are so many - of course, true fact indeed. Much love xx
Sara, I LOVE how you said. .."my head is already exploding with ideas I want to explore in my next sketchbook (hello trip to art supplies store!), and patterns and colour combinations I want to take home and try with underglazes on clay."
YES! :-). What an amazing feeling Sara! I'm excited for you--and with you--to see where it takes you in your pottery (yum!) and beyond.
The method for creating a sketchbook in a non-linear way is super-interesting. It gives me a lot of ideas for writing projects as well. I would love to try this method with a "words sketchbook."
Thank you for the course recommendations. Both classes look wonderful. I hope you'll keep sharing updates on these joyful discoveries in your work.
And please tell your daughter that she is very wise about colors, and oceans--and love. xo 💛
Oh!! You have no idea Sara how much reading this filled me with delight! Your sketchbooks are gorgeous (I'm totally going to check out the course you mentioned) and I love your pattern making.
And as for this:
“Mamã, the ocean is lighter and darker not because some parts are shallow and other deep as you told me, but simply because it loves colour.”
Could anything be more beautiful?! 😍 Thank you, thank you xx
Jane, thank you for reading and for your kind words! 🧡
My daughter is growing up so fast that I treasure these moments when she is herself and forgets she's "supposed" to be a blazé pre-teen and roll her eyes at everything 😀
Well, will you look at all that! I know exactly what you mean about the decisive line, that in its slight wonkiness comes to life in a way that an exact line mainly seems not to... ('exactitude is not truth', Matisse). So good to get away and see things differently...
Actually, after I posted this, I continued with the Daily Challenge which, yesterday, was to do a blind contour drawing. Again, I much preferred the pen and loved the wonky results I got drawing with one continuous line - and I thought of you! Your lines have that decisive quality I talk about, which, yes, as you say, brings your drawings to life!
You touch at the very heart of my deepest fear: that my words sound fake or forced because English is not my mother tongue, that I make crass mistakes and in general sound lame… So, thank you :)
Don’t be silly! You’re such a gifted writer. Besides, I’m my own harshest critic when I’m on grammar patrol with my own writing 😉 I’m delighted to be here, so I can only thank you for inviting me.
Susie, I have to confess that knowing you will now be reading my posts makes me a little more than nervous 😬 I need to watch my spelling and my grammar now... 😜
Seriously, though, I am so glad you're here - thank you for reading and for sharing 😘
I am having an interesting time trying to take pictures that are not exactly how I would normally take them, and also trying to capture the patterns and the colours more than the shapes...

What a thoughtful reflection on adding another string to your artistic bow!
(PS It’s easy to forget that English isn’t your first language, making what you compose even more noteworthy. This is a good thing!)

Fear no more!

As always, thank you for reading, Jan!
Gosto muito dos teus exercícios/ trabalhos com as aguarelas! E gosto do que o teu olhar de artista me mostra.
