I so enjoyed reading this Sara, I'm inclined to feel in a rush about everything so it's very reassuring to remind myself that there really is no rush and that I can still take my time as I learn and improve. x
Thank you, Vanessa! I think that clay really needs us to take our time with it. There are so many possibilities with this medium that the best - if we are able - is to try different things before going all in into a style, or into a type of clay or of firing, for instance. Experimenting, having fun - that's also the best way to learn, right?
Absolutely! It’s easy to be persuaded that one should have a certain style, but I’m simply not that sort of person, I think I will be forever playing. If people are happy to buy my experiments along the way I’ll be delighted! x
I was hooked the first wheel throwing class I went to. Then work got in the way. Then health got in the way. I am trying hand building but very useless at it compared to wheel throwing which comes more naturally to me. I am getting better health wise and hoping to be able to go back to a class later this year. I’m learning alot from ‘The Great Pottery throw down’ on C4 though 😁 such a delightful show. Lovely to read your story as I too hope to set up a studio one day.
I have heard of that show, yes! A friend even told me it's available here on cable TV but I keep forgetting to check it.
I am happy your health is getting better - I am sure you'll get back to clay when the time is right. It will find you - if you are ready just say yes :)
First, thank you for the quote 🧡... I would say you are very much on your way. You pots have a definite vibe that I can sense. I read about your background and applaud your journey. It is quite amazing. When I learned German back in the 90s there was a Polish girl in my class and as I was being tortured by 4 declinations she laughed and said Polish has 7. I NEVER forgot that 😵💫😆. I look forward to seeing your processes and what you create. With warmest wishes from thd South of Germany. ( PS your English is fantastic 🧡)
I am terrible at taking compliments, I apologise for not replying to it straight away. It kept nagging at me, though, I have to say it: Thank you for the comment about my English ☺️🙏🏽Writing in English is now easier for me than writing in Portuguese but that doesn't mean I feel confident writing here; the fear that it may sound forced or fake, and of writing something that's just wrong is always there. So, thank you again, it means a lot 🤎
Thank you so much, Diana! For reading, for taking the time to comment and for your words. It means a lot.
Polish... don't get me started... 7 declinations, 3 plural forms... It's a whole post in itself, or maybe best left alone. I'm divided on that one 😄.
I was happy to find your Substack and am even more thrilled (and also a bit terrified, if I'm honest 😬) that you decided to subscribe to mine. And I am really enjoying reading your posts (I'm still catching up), it seems we also share a love of gardening.
Wonderful to hear your story!
Thank you for reading, Tamsin!

I hope my pottery journey will end up like yours!
Thank you for reading :)
No matter where your journey ends, enjoy the ride - that's the most important thing! Take care, Jane!

I need to add something to my previous reply :)
